The Orlof is a charming 18th century mansion (built 1789), lovingly restored to one of Hydra's
finest and most elegant hotels. While the old architectural style has been left untouched, all modern comforts
are provided. The Orlof has 10 rooms, each one differently decorated with antique furniture, and with a character
of its own. All rooms are fully air conditioned, with direct dial phones, bathroom. Some have also a small refrigerator.
There is a bar, breakfast area that opens up to the garden, where breakfast is served. There are superior rooms
with small sitting area, mini bar and colour TV. It has all characteristics of
the traditional architecture of Hydra: thick walls, hidden interior courtyards and a beautiful garden. The house
was built by the admiral G.Orloff in 1798, and has been lovingly restored to Hydra's finest and most characteristic
hotel.Hydra, at the time, was one of the rare territories with relative freedom, and was called "little England" thanks to its powerful fleet and great wealth. G. Orloff fell in love with the island and decided to built a house on it. Situated in the heart of Hydra town the Orloff Hotel stands on an advantageous site, very central and yet very calm. It has easy access to everything: the port, the closest swimming spot "Spilia", the historic Hydra pharmacy and hospital, the metropolitan church, a monastery built in the 1600s, as well as the telephone company and the traditional Market Place. |
