The Saronic Gulf islands are the closest to Athens and can be reached in an hour or less by highspeed in the case of Aegina and Agistri and are great for daytrips and overnights even in the winter. For getting to your hotel in Athens from the port of Pireaus I recommend George the Famous Taxi Driver . Arriving by ferry there are usually many more people than taxis so it is a good idea to arrange a transfer either through your travel agent or George.
