Kythira

Yes, I know what you are thinking. Kythira? How is Kythira one of the Ionian Islands? It is nowhere near the Ionian Islands, located in between the southeastern tip of the Peloponessos and the island of Crete. But trust me. Kythira is one of the Ionian islands and is completely different from the others, though no less beautiful. Kythira is the least touristy of the Ionian Islands, with its busy season being August when the people who immigrated to Australia and other places return for the summer holidays. With large bays, a rugged terrain and beautiful beaches, and architecture influenced by the Venetians, Ottoman and Aegean culture, Kythira often becomes the favorite island of anyone who goes there. There are daily boats from Neapolis and a couple ferries a week that stop there on the way to Kasteli, Crete. Kythira has an airport with flights from Athens.
