To get to the Ionian islands you will need to go to Western Greece to take a ferry or else fly from Athens. You can book a transfer from Athens Airport with George the Famous Taxi Driver whose prices are quite reasonable and definitely a good deal if you are sharing the cost since he charges by the journey and not by the person. You can get all the way to Corfu and Lefkada by taxi.
