Village Mathios & Mathios Village is a family-run hotel near the Caldera cliffs. It is purposely set amongst the green vineyards of Akrotiri, away from the hustle and bustle of the more tourist-orientated towns. We believe this is an ideal, romantic place for couples, as well as for people with special interests in Archaeology, Geology, beach-combing and over-all comfort and relaxation in mind.

About Akrotiri

Akrotiri, our village with its magnificent over the cliffs location the spectacular view to the famous Caldera very important archaeological excavations 1.500 BC which were discovered in 1967 by Spiros Marinatos the only well preserved settlement of the (Bronze Age) buried under the volkanic sand, attracts all the kinds of people to create a great admiration for the village that remains alive and beautiful after so many centuries (you need to visit).

The small, authentic and relaxed village of Akrotiri is situated on the Western part of the Island, away from the noisy, larger tourist-orientated villages. In this relaxed setting one is free to wander the streets of our Historical Village with its old houses, caves, cave churches, famous the Goulas Castle.

The more enthusiastic, can walk along the Caldera towards the Lighthouse on Cape Akrotiri and take in some of the most spectacular sunsets. There are many locally-run Tavernas in the Village and along the beaches, which offer excellent Greek cuisine. However, after tasting some of “mama’s” famous cooking and experiencing our Greek Nights with live music, you’ll never wander too far!!! There are also many Markets and Souvenir Shops in the Village and of course the Worry Bead shop of George Papalexis right in the hotel lobby with some of his finest examples of this Greek art..
