Hotels of Greece: Athens Hotels

Location is important when choosing a hotel in Athens. I recommend being in or near the Plaka . Almost all of these listed are within walking distance of the Acropolis. For more information see the hotels page in my Athens Survival Guide. Hotels are listed by category from highest to lowest.  There are beach and suburb hotels at the bottom of this page.

If you have an early flight you don't need to stay near the airport. Traffic is light in the morning and you can be there from central Athens in 30 minutes. If you have an early ferry there is no reason to stay in Pireaus either. From Monastiraki metro station you can be in the port of Pireaus in 15 minutes, probably quicker than you can walk there from any decent hotel in Pireaus.

Hotels Outside of Central Athens

Check also Corinth and Isthmia in the Peloponessos section which is only about an hour away from Athens

See
Matt Barrett's Athens Survival Guide for more information on hotels and booking.

The islands of Aegina, Angistri and Poros are close enough to Athens so that you can stay there and do day trips into the city and be home in time for a swim before dinner. Agia Marina in Aegina is less than half an hour from Pireaus by Flying Dolphin. So if you don't think you want to be in the city but you still want to see the city be sure to see Hotels in the Saronic Islands
